Pediatric Complex Needs Care in Winnipeg

Expert Care. At Home.

Children with medical complexities — ventilator dependence, severe neurological impairment, or congenital conditions — deserve expert care in their own home, not prolonged hospital stays. Manitoba's pediatric nursing shortage means families often wait months for publicly funded support. Our skilled nursing team provides the specialised, continuous care that allows medically complex children to thrive at home while empowering their families.

Pediatric Complex Needs Care

Our Approach

Skilled Pediatric Nursing

Trained nurses experienced in pediatric tracheostomy care, ventilator management, feeding tubes, and complex medication protocols.

Family Empowerment

We teach and support parents in caring for their child's medical needs, building confidence while providing expert backup — we do not take over, we partner.

Developmental Support

Age-appropriate stimulation and engagement that supports cognitive, physical, and social development despite medical limitations.

Care Coordination

Navigating the system on behalf of families — coordinating with pediatricians, specialists at Children's Hospital, and provincial programs like Children's disABILITY Services.

Respite for Parents

Reliable shift coverage so parents can rest, attend to siblings, work, and maintain their own health without guilt.

What Your Family Gains

Hospital stays shortened

Expert home nursing enables earlier discharge from Childrens Hospital and prevents readmissions.

Parents restored

Structured respite means exhausted parents can sleep, work, or spend time with siblings.

Development supported

Play, stimulation, and therapy reinforcement continue at home — not paused by medical complexity.

Sibling attention restored

When our team handles the medical child's care, parents can actually parent their other kids.

Pediatric Complex Care in Winnipeg

Children's Hospital at HSC Winnipeg is the provincial hub for pediatric complex care, and its Specialty Clinics — from pediatric respirology and pediatric neurology to the Child Health Complex Care Program — provide outstanding inpatient and outpatient care. What's missing is the in-home skilled nursing that allows medically complex children to actually live at home, attend school, and develop in a family environment instead of a hospital ward.

Our pediatric nurses handle tracheostomy care (suctioning, tube changes per protocol), ventilator and BiPAP management, gastrostomy and NG tube feeds, central line care, seizure management, complex medication protocols, and the developmental engagement that ensures these kids are not just surviving but growing.

We coordinate with the Child Health Complex Care Program at HSC, Children's disABILITY Services (CDS) for funding and respite, pediatric subspecialty clinics, and the Home Nutrition Program for children on enteral feeds. For school-aged children we support school transitions, care in school settings where policy permits, and medical day-to-day coordination with teachers and aides.

Discharge coordination

We routinely work with the Children's Hospital complex care discharge team to plan home transitions for medically complex kids — sometimes over weeks of coordinated home setup, equipment staging, and caregiver training. Done right, these discharges stick and readmissions drop.

Respite is not optional

Parents of medically complex children are often sleep-deprived for years. CDS-funded respite is limited; private respite through our team bridges the gap. Every family we work with has a respite plan built in from day one — because sustainability matters more than heroism.

Why Winnipeg Families Choose Prime Home Health

We're not a franchise. We're not a staffing agency. We're a locally-owned Winnipeg company where registered nurses guide every care plan—with doctor support when medical needs are identified. That's not typical for home health care in Winnipeg. But your family isn't typical either.

Nurse-Led, Doctor-Supported Care

Every care plan is developed by registered nurses and backed by our Medical Director.

"With physician support, our dedicated team of nurses and caregivers brings confidence to families knowing a doctor is always guiding the care."
