Palliative & End-of-Life Care in Winnipeg
Comfort. Dignity. Home.
When comfort becomes the priority, families deserve more than a waitlist. Winnipeg has only 16 dedicated hospice beds for the entire city — the lowest ratio in Canada — with wait times stretching weeks. Our team provides the round-the-clock, comfort-focused care that allows clients to spend their final chapter at home, in peace, surrounded by the people and environment they love.

Our Approach
Comfort-Centered Care
Every intervention is guided by one principle — the client's comfort. Pain management, positioning, and gentle personal care delivered with dignity.
Symptom Management
Skilled nursing oversight for complex medication regimens including pain control (often subcutaneous), nausea relief, anxiety management, and respiratory comfort.
Family Support
Emotional guidance, respite, and practical help for families navigating the most difficult period of their lives — including anticipatory grief support.
Hospice Coordination
Seamless collaboration with WRHA Palliative Care, Palliative Manitoba, and physicians to ensure no gaps in the care plan.
24/7 Availability
Round-the-clock shift coverage so families never feel alone — day or night, weekday or weekend, including holidays.

What Your Family Gains
Pain controlled
Around-the-clock analgesia and breakthrough dosing means your parent is not waiting for relief.
Family present, not performing
Professional care handles the clinical; family gets to sit, hold hands, and be present.
Home instead of hospice waitlist
When the 16 city hospice beds are full, home becomes the best alternative — and we make it possible.
Last wishes honoured
Staying home, familiar surroundings, favourite music, pets nearby — the small things that matter most at end of life.
Palliative Care in Winnipeg
Winnipeg has one of the lowest per-capita hospice bed ratios in Canada — just 16 beds at Riverview Health Centre's Palliative Care Unit for a population of nearly 750,000. Wait times can stretch weeks, and even when a bed opens, many families would rather their loved one stay home. Our team is built for exactly that scenario.
Our RNs handle complex palliative symptom management — continuous subcutaneous morphine or hydromorphone infusions via CADD pumps, breakthrough opioid dosing, methadone titration in coordination with palliative physicians, antiemetics, anxiolytics, secretion management — in the home setting. We work with the WRHA Palliative Care Program, Palliative Manitoba, and community palliative physicians who make house calls when needed.
At end of life, we provide continuous 24/7 nursing presence if that is what the family wants — meaning the family can rest knowing their parent will not die alone while they sleep. Our caregivers stay through the death, support the family through the first calls, and coordinate with funeral homes. We do not disappear the moment someone passes.
Same-day palliative starts
When a family decides to shift from curative to comfort care, waiting is not an option. We can typically have a palliative RN in the home within 24 hours of the first call, coordinating with the existing physician and WRHA Palliative team.
After the death
We do not hand you a bill and vanish. Our team stays through the immediate aftermath — supporting the family, coordinating with the funeral home, closing out medication narcotic waste, and checking in in the weeks that follow. Grief does not end at death.

Nurse-Led, Doctor-Supported Care
Every care plan is developed by registered nurses and backed by our Medical Director.

Families stay with us. After five years, 98% of our clients remain with Prime.
We've helped over two thousand Winnipeg families navigate this journey.
